General conditions for car hire in Spain are that the driver needs to be over 21, s/he must have held a licence for over 1 year, the driver must present a credit card when picking up the car and must show a full driving licence.

We have hired many cars in Benidorm and Alicante and there are some questions and issues that you need to consider. Here are our tips for hiring a car in Benidorm:-

1. Make sure you compare like with like
   When you are shopping around for car hire, make sure that you look carefully at what is included (and not included) in the price. Is IVA (VAT) included? What insurance cover is included? Will you have to pay an excess in the case of an accident? Do you have to pay extra for a full tank of petrol? Are there any extras?
2. Look at the car specifications carefully
   Is it big enough for your needs? Will you be able to fit all your luggage in the boot? Does it have air conditioning? Air-con is essential in Spain. Is the car powerful enough for your needs? You might find some engine sizes struggle with a car full of people and luggage.
3. If your partner is going to be sharing the driving, make sure that you have permission for this from the car hire company. This may cost extra. Make sure they also have their driving licence.
